Zero Energy Goals
In support of the world working toward greater energy
independence and a cleaner environment, BIOS Building
Technologies embraces the strategic goal of developing net-zero
energy buildings to reduce global energy demand. BIOS Building
Technologies strategic goal is to create technologies and design
approaches that provide marketable zero energy homes and
commercial buildings. A net-zero energy building is a
residential or commercial building with greatly reduced needs
for energy through efficiency gains (60% to 70% less than
conventional practice), with the balance of energy needs
supplied by renewable technologies. These efficiency gains will
have application to buildings currently being constructed, which
will help provide energy savings immediately.
Working with our global partners we bring together expertise in
energy efficiency and renewable energy to research the design
and construction of new buildings that produce energy as well as
consume less energy. In the residential area, for example, home
building teams are designing and constructing houses that are at
least 50% more efficient than average homes and employ solar
electric or solar hot water systems (or both) to offset energy
from the utility provider. These prototype homes are also being
used to conduct research to improve building design and
technologies.
To improve various sectors of commercial building, BIOS Building
Technologies is forming alliances with key industry partners.
These alliances provide input into the research conducted by the
High Performance Commercial Buildings team and help work toward
the goal of zero energy buildings.

If included in the mortgage, solar
will increase your payment by the average of $19.00 per
month while reducing your utility bill by $25 to $45 per
month; thus, giving the homeowner a positive cash flow
from day one.
Example:
Adding a Solar Energy System to mortgage: $19.00/month
Potential Power Bill Savings: $45.00/month
-----------------
Positive Cash Flow/month: $26.00
But that's not the only
benefit! Installing a Solar Water Heater can also help
you qualify for an
Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM). The advantages of
an EEM include a reduced down payment, lower closing
cost or an increased debt-to-income ratio. This
debt-to-income ratio stretch means you qualify for a
larger mortgage. So, when you're deciding what to
include in your new home, remember that solar is the
only household appliance that pays for itself over and
over again. Other water heating systems, like electric
and gas require never-ending monthly utility payments.
The sun's energy is FREE.
Rebates:
Connecticut Clean Energy Fund now offers rebates for
Connecticut residents who install solar photovoltaic systems
on their homes. The incentives are available only through
participating installers that have been designated by CCEF.
Systems may be of any size but must be connected to the
electric grid. The program offers an incentive of $5 per Watt
(PTC rating) for the first 5kW of system and installation
costs, with a maximum rebate of $25,000 per household.
Homes can be one to four family residences.
